How did Magoosh help you?
The strongest points about Magoosh were that they have tons of practice questions AND follow-up explanation videos. I had already been studying English for several years, so my reading and listening skills were decent. However, there are some TOEFL questions that are tricky and may trip you up if you don't know how to navigate that. Lucas' videos help you do just that is what I found. As for how closely the questions of Reading and Listening from Magoosh reflect the difficulty level of the actual questions, I'd say, it's pretty close - about 85%? It's not 100% because I find the actual questions are a tad easier. Some people might say that's good, but to me it wasn't because it made TOEFL out to be more difficult than was needed. Another thing that I really liked about Magoosh are the sample speaking responses. I was enrolled in another TOEFL prep website, and personally the tips and techniques on there weren't much help because it seemed like the response I was supposed to give to get a high score pretty much felt like giving a verbal essay. It was pretty daunting and unmotivating. With Magoosh, it was different in that the kind of response Lucas gives in the sample response videos is relatively informal and casual, which made me think, "Hey, I can do that." Of course, I could never do what Lucas does and does so well on test day, but what matters is his tips are really practical and actionable. However, there's something I'd like to touch on regarding this, which I'll talk about in 'How could we improve Magoosh?' As for the writing questions from Magoosh, I didn't get around making use of them not because they are not good, but because I just didn't. Writing was the area I practiced the least. |

Magoosh helped me to understand the structure of the TEST, identify its key moments and focus on the major components, which are required for the high score.
