I was targeting state universities through GMAT(which i studied by magoosh and scored 690). They require either TOEFL or IELTS. Deciding factor was that Magoosh provided Toefl lessons and not Ielts lessons. Hence without a doubt i made my decision to go for toefl. Toefl Instructor Prof. Lucas is the best instructor i could have hoped for. I was good in speaking and listening english from my childhood but what i lag was in writing skills(didn't write much once entered corporate world). Reading was automatically developed while studying for GMAT. The writing section lessons are the best. My Takeaways in Writing:- 1. Learn 3-4 general idioms use them in both the questions per your intellect. As there are some idioms that can fit in any situation if you want to. 2. In general essay, to introduce ideas use lines such as:-As scholars believe, as studies have suggested, as history has shown, per the survey. It gives more weight to your points. 3. State clearly your position. 4. Passage integrated with listening question, focus on listening part more and make notes on the side. 5. Always use comparison phrases but use different one in same passages. I used:- although, while, On one hand/on the other, despite. |

I didn't do very well in the AWA section of the GRE so I wanted do well on the writing section in the TOEFL. The writing templates were very helpful especially for the integrated task. The reading lessons helped me stay clear of any pitfalls and also helped me get familiar with certain question types particular to TOEFL. |
